When it comes to styling hair, adding texture for a tousled look can add stickiness and leave hair a little stiff, or even dry. Well, you can say goodbye to crispy waves with the new addition to Aveda’s styling range, Texture Tonic, bringing a fresh new vibe in achieving tousled hair.
Aveda Texture Tonic – £21
The new addition to Aveda tonic sprays for hair, is a bit of a breakthrough when it comes to creating that natural beachy look. Using 94% naturally derived ingredients, this provides what it says on the bottle, texture and a tonic for hair. Style it up with natural beachy waves, without leaving hair crisp like many texture sprays out there. With ingredients of Salt (Magnesium Sulphate), this helps contract and compress hair, providing A tousled structure. Plus, Cane Sugar, a natural humectant that helps create texture whilst leaving hair shiny and soft to the touch.
Ingredients : Water\Aqua\Eau , Magnesium Sulfate , PVP , Propanediol , Polysorbate 20 , Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract\Extrait De Canne A Sucre , Pullulan , Sucrose , Babassuamidopropyl Betaine , Glycerin , Sodium Chloride , Citric Acid , Fragrance (Parfum) , Farnesol , Eugenol , Linalool , Citronellol , Limonene , Benzyl Benzoate , Cinnamal , Geraniol , Cinnamyl Alcohol , Potassium Sorbate , Phenoxyethanol
This also has Aveda’s own pure-fume™ aroma, using certified organic Ginger, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, along with other pure flower/plant essences.
To use : Apply to dry or damp hair from mid-lengths to ends. Blow dry and style hair, or simply leave to air dry.
For those ‘just at home’ days, I sometimes use on my hair whilst it is still damp, just to create some casual structure. If I am going somewhere and want to create a more styled look, I blow dry and use a wave wand. Then spritz a little into the hair and use my fingers to create further texture. I own a couple of other texturising sprays, both of which leave hair rather crisp to the touch, and can also be very drying. Not the result I get with Aveda’s new offering, I am amazed at the softness Texture Tonic provides!
Bea Watson, Aveda Hairstyling Global Director, created this effortless Californian skater girl style look (below), using Texture Tonic. For a playful spirit, this provides loose waves that have natural texture.

“Roberta’s collection takes inspiration from the south-coast beach and skateboarding scene, and we created a look that would represent the everyday Californian girl coming straight out of the sea and heading onto their skateboard in the sun.” Bea Watson, Aveda Global Director
I am a huge fan of Aveda hair products, as some of you may already know. If you follow me on Instagram you will often find me raving about them, as I use several different products on a day-to-day basis. Thickening Tonic is also a favourite of mine, as having fine hair, this enables me to get great root lift, along with creating more overall volume to my hair.
With the addition of the Texturising Tonic, I find it is another one I can’t seem to stop using now. This, for me, leaves other texturising sprays in the shade. So if you like a style with some texture, you need to get on that waiting list and try it, I promise you won’t regret it!
Update October – now available!!
