Hi guys, I hope you are all doing okay. After a relaxing break in Corfu a few weeks ago, I felt it was time to get back into the blog. Sadly, after losing our dog Flynn 2 months ago, things went awry, so I’ve run rather late in compiling this post. I want to share with you some info and products from Disciple. I love their ethos and ingredients, plus I’m really pleased to be an ambassador for the brand. Right…let’s crack on.
I had been following Disciple London on Instagram for a while, I liked the sound of the brand, they were about something close to my heart..skincare AND wellness. So, when I was approached by them a few months ago asking if I would like to be an Ambassador, after doing some more research, I was more than happy to accept. I am really pleased to rave about products that are not overloaded with ingredients, that concentrate on health and efficacy. I warn you, it’s a bit of a lengthy post, but so worth the read…
The brand was set up by psychotherapist Charlotte Ferguson, based on how stress effects our minds and bodies, plus causing inflammation and issues with the skin. The clean range of Disciple skincare and wellness products use botanical adaptogens, linoleic (omega-6 fatty), acids and prebiotic ingredients, designed to reduce inflammation, fight bacteria, rebalance and soften the skin. All products are made in batches, using fresh, raw botanical ingredients which are all clinically tested (no animal testing), and provide precise labelling. All products come in dark glass packaging, protective of the formulations (green and brown glass helps stop sunlight affecting the ingredients), and is kinder to our environment.
When I worked as a beauty therapist and aromatherapist, I focused on treating clients holistically, using phytotherapy and aromatherapy. The power of plants can provide amazing results on both body and mind, as well as skincare. It’s definitely about what works for you, but if you can find products that keep your skin healthy and balanced, it can help address any skin issues you may have.
With Disciple London, the brand focus on using limited ingredients that are plant based in their products, with a view to balancing skin in order for it to function well. Plus, they have different strengths of CBD oils to use topically and internally, along with a limited collection of essential oils. They batch make products using fresh ingredients, and the range is small. Plus there’s no overloading of ingredients here, they simply keep things to a minimum, whilst focusing on helping treat issues caused by stress.
Skin is the largest organ of the body, and can be affected by inflammation, as well as our health. Inflammation is our body’s built-in defense system, protecting us from injuries, and infection from bacteria and viruses. Although when it goes into overload at times of stress, it can have an adverse affect. Our bodies can hold on to inflammation, so in turn skin can react with breakouts and rosacea, whilst stress can increase anxiety. In order to help calm down and treat stress and inflammation, it’s about getting the balance right in order to process repair ; regular exercise, a healthy diet, and good skin health.
Having chronic pain illnesses that react to stress, I have inflammation in my body, along with a delicate and sensitive skin. I have broken capillaries, and more recently since menopause, I now get the odd breakout and even periods of rosacea. Since using Disciple products, I have found my capillaries to appear less red and my skin is soft, luminous and seems calmer. Although it can be a constant battle when your body is against you, the right products can help get on top of the issues right away.
Let’s dive into the Disciple range, so I can share with you what they are, what’s in them and how I use them in my daily routines.
There are 2 cleansers currently in the Disciple range, Night Shift, being one of them, an AHA night cleanse that’s on my list (limited spends – some things have to come before skincare). The other, Clean Slate for morning routines, is a charcoal and cocoa butter based soap-on-a-rope bar, to cleanse and fight bacteria whilst keeping skin supple. I occasionally use this on my face, and it doesn’t affect my skin sensitivity due to the low amount of tea tree. I actually like using this on my body in the shower..that’s if I have any left, as Simon (hubby) pinches it! I also need to stress that it smells lovely, plus due to the amount of fatty acids it doesn’t dry skin out.
Clean Slate ingredients : Sodium Olivate, Sodium Cocoate, Aqua, Sodium Almondate, Sodium Shea Butterate, Sodium Castorate, Activated Charcoal, Tea Tree Essential Oil.
After cleansing, skin needs a bit of balance, prior to adding serums, so let’s take a peek at the Disciple facial mists. There are 2 in the range, Balancing mist and Juicy mist, both absolutely gorgeous, and provide just what their names suggest.
Balancing Mist contains Geranium floral water, which not only balances skin but helps healing and is anti-inflammatory. The copper peptides help boost collagen production and cell rejuvenation. It has a gentle herbal scent, and is really soothing.
Balancing mist ingredients : 100% pure geranium water (hydrolat), Copper tripeptide-1, Glycerin.
Juicy Mist is especially helpful to those with thirsty skins (*waves hands in the air*). Orange blossom, Aloe and HA are in this beautiful mix. It smells amazing and is one of my fave products in the range. I love spritzing over makeup during the day to hydrate and refresh, and I swear it helped save my skin from dehydrating whilst on holiday. It helps plump the skin whilst also promoting a glow..a definite winner, although both mists serve their purpose, and I love using both. Another bonus to mention, is that they deliver a good wide, fine mist, not just a line that hits you in the eye like some on the market!
Juicy Mist ingredients : Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Flower Water, Aloe Vera, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Leaf Oil – FCF Free, Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Oil.
Batch dates are on all Disciple product packaging. The labelling is precise and clear, so you and your skin will know where you are.
What Spot? Well, you might just be saying this after applying this little beauty. I find it works after about a day..it’s so good! The formula, delivered by way of a rollerball, fights bacteria, cleans out the offending pores, whilst helping to calm redness and inflammation. Disciple What Spot is a zesty little minx, but she won’t sting you. I tend to apply to any offenders after cleansing in my morning routine, dab on once during the day and then again at night. Next day; redness gone, spot usually gone. It’s possibly the best blemish product I’ve come across tbh.
What Spot ingredients: Nigella Sativa Seed Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Oil, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Copaifera Officinalis Resin, Carapa Guaiansis Oil, Euterpe Oleracea Pulp Oil, Cinnamomum Camphora (Ho Leaf) Oil, Juniperus Communis (Juniper) Oil, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin) Oil.
Now for some serious serums, let me introduce you to Good Skin and Dreamy Skin…
Juicy Mist and Dreamy Skin serums, two of my absolute faves from the Disciple range!
Along with CBD oil 2.5% strength for skin (which I will talk about later), there are 2 main skin serums in the Disciple range. Good Skin is your morning serum, which is Grapeseed oil based so not heavy but lightweight in viscosity. With Turmeric oil to help redness, Burdock Root works as a prebiotic to help boost skins good bacteria, whilst Geranium helps bring balance. It also contains Tea Tree so being antibacterial, if you are prone to breakouts, this serum is your bff. I tend to alternate using this with CBD oil 2.5% and, even though my skin doesn’t suffer with oil and only the occasional breakout, it hasn’t become drier. It’s a healthy skin serum that still provides glow and bounce.
Good Skin ingredients : Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Curcuma longa (Turmeric oil)*, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil (Rosemary), Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil (Geranium)*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender oil)*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree oil), Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha Oil)*, Burdock Root Extract**, Olive Oil – Organic Extra Virgin <0.5% * Adaptogens ** Prebiotics
You can try both Good Skin and Dreamy Skin in the Disciple Discovery Kit shown above..they contain 10ml bottles that still last several weeks. This way, you can see how they work for you without splashing out if you prefer!
Dreamy Skin is a nighttime saviour, well it certainly is mine. So if you have sensitive skin or read ‘Retinol’ and start to cringe..I can assure you, there really is no need with this gentle blend. I myself would back away from full-on Retinol as its too powerful for sensitive skin, but Retinyl Palmitate is gentler, being 20% less in strength as it’s an ester of Vitamin A. The highest ingredient are Grapeseed and Rosehip working as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and emollients. Then followed by the active ingredients in equal amounts, which include ; Retinyl Palmitate, Jasmine, Frankincense, and Blue Chamomile oils.
The scent of this blend is beautiful, so if you are a fan of Jasmine and Frankincense as I am…you’ll get me! I apply 4 drops to my post-cleansed face and neck at night, and enjoy the aroma as it’s so relaxing. My skin is left so soft, yet without any skin sensitivity. When using Dreamy Skin regularly, it helps improve skin surface texture, fine lines, pore appearance, plus help to reduce pigmentation. All this whilst helping skin remain balanced and healthy, what’s not to love? I highly recommend, as Dreamy lives up to her name!
Dreamy Skin ingredients : Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed Oil), Rosa Mosqueta Seed Oil (Rosehip Seed Oil), Blue Chamomile Essential Oil*, Boswelisa Sacra (Frankincense Oil)*, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine Oil), Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba), Burdock Root Extract**, Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha Oil)*, Vitamin A Palmitate (Retinyl Palmitate), Olive Oil- Organic Extra Virgin <0.5% * Adaptogens **Prebiotics
Above ; full-size Dreamy Skin serum and discovery size (from kit)
Disciple Wellness :
When you delve into the range of Disciple, you find it really is focused on providing a holistic range for self-care. Along with some well though out and awesome skincare, they also provide CBD oils and Essential oils, in order to help body and mind keep stress at bay.
I’m all for self-care wether it be skin, body or mind, so I love using essential oils in a burner, in the bath and also in a massage medium (I will do a more in depth aromatherapy post at a later date). There are a limited selection of Disciple essential oils, including ; Lavender, Geranium, Tea Tree, Clary Sage and Rosemary. All are 100% ethically sourced pure botanicals, with ‘best before‘ dates are on the box base, so you’ll know if your oil is still okay to use.
*please think safety first when using pure essential oils and do not add directly to skin; find out about on blending to avoid toxicity
I’ve recently been adding a couple of drops of Lavender and Clary Sage to some water in my burner, lighting the candle underneath, and letting the room fill with aroma. I allow deep breaths to take in the scent blend to help bring calm and a relaxed mind. Or, depending on my needs, I also like to add a few drops to a warm bath for inhalation. This works so well for ‘time out‘ de-stressing sessions.

‘Miracle Drops’ CBD from Disciple
Disciple do 3 strengths of full spectrum CBD (Cannabidiol) oils. 25mg, 500mg and 1000mg in 30ml sized dropper bottles (dark brown glass). There is less than 0.2% of THC, the psychoactive chemical of the Cannabis plant), in CBD oil..so don’t worry, you won’t be getting high.
I use the 2.5% (25mg), as a skin oil and find it works well to help lessen the redness in my skin and as its packed with antioxidants, it can help signs of ageing and improve skin brightness. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, so works to help calm skin. I simply use a couple of drops, warm in the hand and apply after cleansing and misting.
CBD oils ingredients : Cannabis Sativa (Hemp Seed Oil), Cannabidiol
I was using a different brand in a high strength for several months to help my pain levels for Fibromyalgia/Arthritis/Migraine, along with anxiety and low mood. I now use Disciple 500 mg or 5% adding about 3-4 drops under my tongue around 3 times a day.
I find CBD to really help my anxiety and mood (mainly as a result of post-menopausal hormones/HRT), working to help me relax. No, I’m not zoned out, just calmer and find it lowers my stress levels, which in turn is beneficial to Fibromyalgia. When I use CBD higher strength on a regular basis, I do find it can lessen the amount of pain flares, although it doesn’t take away all the pain. I am still working on getting my right dosage, as it will be different for each individual. It’s about finding the correct strength/amount that works the best for you.
I also find Disciple CBD not to be as harsh in taste, compared to the previous brand CBDoil I was using. It does have an herbal/plant taste but not unpleasant, but I find it helpful to suck a mint a couple of minutes after administering a dose. Dosage works best by dropping under the tongue, as it gets into the bloodstream faster this way.
Disciple also now do CBD 8mg skin patches, if you prefer it to slowly go into the bloodstream over 24 hours, and don’t wish to use oil by mouth. They come in packs of 30, so a month’s supply. I had a few as a sample, but can’t quote on how they were as it was too short a time for me to notice a difference. Also for me, having sensitive skin I’m not really a fan of patches, especially after HRT patches caused skin sensitivity a couple of years ago. I prefer the oil dropper administration, but it’s whatever floats your CBD boat, and what works for you.
If you are interested in trying CBD for anxiety, sleep promotion, pain etc, I do recommend giving it go! To check out all the info and Disciple FAQ’s on CBD oil, head here.
I’m happy with how good my skin seems since using Disciple products, which I use in every routine.. every single day. When I lost my dear Flynn, Charlotte from Disciple kindly sent me a little care care package of products to help through such a difficult time. It was really kind, so I’d like to say a massive ‘Thank you!’ to Charlotte and the team, not only for the products, but being understanding about my delay in posting! X
