So here it is, a bright shiny new yearbook, all ready for us to fill pages with whatever the heck we want! If you have just hit on this site, ‘Welcome!”, but if you are a regular, you might just notice there have been a few changes. Let’s get into a new year here on the blog shall we? ‘Happy 2019 guys’!
Running a blog, looking after the family, home, trying to do the ‘normal life’ stuff, along with looking after yourself, can be tough when you have chronic pain illness. So when bad menopausal symptoms hit me over 18 months ago, I started a journey trying different HRT (of which I still have issues). Then last year, my best friend and fur baby was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This all led to my blog massively falling behind, as I posted less and less and visits dropped off. So before the end of last year, I decided I wanted to jump back into the swing of things, along with making a few changes. There is now a new name by way of an extension, so the blog has now become, ‘Chronic Beauty Style‘.
The name change : ‘Chronic’, has always been in keeping with me having long-term illness, along with an ongoing passion for the second part, ‘Beauty’, which speaks for itself. ‘Style’ has now been incorporated not only for the fashion and accessories posts, but my own style and take on things, including over on Instagram.
I felt I needed some changes to help inspire creativity, along with a fresh feel. I also have other aspirations for the blog, and will keep you posted once I start the ball rolling with those ideas. We will see how this year pans out, and hopefully.. (depending on my health), I can start building this into something worthwhile! There are plenty of new things coming, plus some of my older style posts. If I am not your cup of tea, that’s fine, but if I am.. I really hope you’ll stick around and enjoy the journey with me!
Okay, there are some products I did not have time to talk about in 2018, so let’s get stuck in…
Skimono Masques – from around £10 to £15 per mask
Skimono offer 3 different face masks, plus hand and foot treatment masks, all designed to drench skin in moisture with enriched serums. Also available as 3’s, 4’s, or 7’s multipacks. Each of their mask products managed to achieve a form of Beauty Shortlists Award in 2018, 2 of them winners! I was kindly sent the 2 winning masks at the end of last summer, as samples.
“Skin + Kimono ; The dressing ritual of the Japanese kimono, meaning ‘thing to wear’, requires time and care to look and feel your best, just like your skincare routine”.
Advanced Moisturisation mask ingredients : Water (Aqua), Butylene Glycol, Urea, Trehalose, Glycerin, Rosa Rugosa Flower Extract, 1,2-hexanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Honey Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Polyquaternium-51, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance (Parfum), Sorbic Acid.
Aftersun mask Ingredients : Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, 1,2- hexanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Glycerin, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract (Cucumber), Xanthan Gum, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate (Licorice Root), Solidago Virgaurea Extract (Goldenrod), Leontopodium Alpinum Extract (Edelweiss), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Menthol, Fragrance (Parfum), Citric Acid.
I used the Aftersun mask on holiday in September, and even though I am an avid wearer of SPF, this really helped hydrate and plump my skin on our last night. I had no dryness or dullness upon returning home from Corfu, and my skin felt great for days.
These sheet masks are made using a bio-cellulose 3D matrix, and lock in moisture with their ‘triple layer technology’. I have a smallish face and many sheet masks are just too big, but these fit SO well! I used the Advanced Moisturisation mask one Sunday after a stream of hot flushes. It helped cool my skin and replace lost hydration, leaving the surface of my skin calm and super moisturised. Keep an eye out for Skimono masks, they are worth trying (and they fit!) – Also available at Look Fantastic and Oliver Bonas.
Bobbi Brown ‘Night Drama’ Palette – £49-50 (sorry, as a seasonal palette, I think this is no longer available)
Drama? No drama! Just beautiful palettes of exquisite shadows. A variety of mattes, shimmers and sparkle that are ideal for day looks or, all out smokin’ vibes. I also have the Crystal Drama version, with some beautiful shades, which is still available here!
I find Bobbi shadows never irritate my sensitive eyes, and the palettes always have wearable shades for a woman of any age. There are 12 shades in all the BB Drama palettes, I have swatched the Night version shades below, and hopefully this may be released again. I have had plenty of use from both versions of my Drama palettes, and they will be staple go-to’s for me for a long time to come.
Sephora Almond Foot Mask – €4.60
I bought this on holiday in the Corfu Sephora store. I had never managed to shop in one of their stores until then, so I left Si sat outside the cafe with his double expresso in the main street, and dashed across the road for half an hour to peruse the beauty. I picked up a few bits I needed, ready for a beauty pamper when I returned home, and this foot mask was a must!
Ingredients : Water, Glycerin, Urea, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Arginine, Carbomer, Caprylyl Glycol, Parfum (Fragrance), 1.2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Allantoin, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Coumarin, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Malic Acid, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract.
Excuse the PJ’s below, but it was a Sunday, and these masks were so well appreciated by my feet. After the sun, sea and sand, constant sandal wearing in the heat, plus swelling during the flight, these were just divine. They helped soothe my feet as they feel so cooling, whilst the Almond extract and Hyaluronic acid made skin super soft. I totally recommend using foot masks if you haven’t yet, the feeling is so good when your feet are tired or skin is super dry. There are plenty of brands around that do them, I just wish Sephora were available in the UK, as some of their products are fab.
I was approached to try some products from this range last summer, but I did not actually start using them until October of last year. I tend to dip in and out of products/brands according to what I need for my skin, and sometimes with samples, you also forget they are in a tray or drawer just waiting to be tested!
If you like the idea of ‘tailor-made’ skincare, Bio-Extracts provide just that, enabling the whittling down of skincare products if we choose. Using a combination of ‘nature, culture and biotechnology’, the brand use botanical ingredients, along with lamellar technology (working within the layers of the skin). They provide a whole range of ‘Boost’ serums, all created for different skin needs. You can then mix these with one of their face creams to suit your skin type, or, apply the serum directly to an area of skin that you want/need to treat.
Products are natural, though driven by science, cruelty-free and Vegan.

There are a couple of other serums I’m keen to try from Bio-Extracts, and I am all for lamellar technology, which, makes the product keep working for hours. I feel the ladies behind this brand are not only offering something simple, but so very effective. I would definitely recommend giving their products a try.
