If Carlsberg made Face Balms…

They would have created Decleor’s Baume Essential, aka Aroma Night (Neroli). This amazing balm is something I can never be without, it has such a beautiful aroma and ingredients that make it fantastic for multi-use purposes on all skin types. If Carlsberg made face balms..

A bit about the brand
French brand Decleor have been around since 1974, have around 600 or more of their own scientists to develop products and, are leaders in aromatherapy skin care. If you don’t really know the brand, their philosophy is based on treating the skin with 100% natural oils and formulas, (free from chemicals and preservatives). They use pure plant oils in their ‘Aromessences’ (facial oils and balms), which as oils, are used under moisturiser in the day for a ‘drip-feed’ effect, to continue working on the skin. The same drip-feed effect is also produced by their night balms. Their balms are basically their Aromessences in a wax form and, these are used as your night ‘treatment’ moisturiser. Decleor were the first brand to use balms in salons and spas in the 70’s and, still use them today during treatments in spas and salons around the world. Now, you can name many brands that use balms in some form or another, as it has become such a popular form of product.
As a therapist, my mantra was working with aromatherapy and phytotherapy products to treat the skin. The power of plant derivatives have amazing benefits and results for all different skin needs. I used to work as a Decleor therapist in hotel spa and, even though I had used Decleor on the odd occasion before, after training with them and learning the ingredients, plus seeing the benefits on clients, many of their products have been part of my beauty regime ever since.
Aroma Night is probably the most used product in any Decleor treatment room (along with  Prolagene gel), as its ingredients are safe to use on all skin types and ages. It is used as a massage medium on the face and afterwards, left on the skin under a mask in many of their facials. Clients leave with what is known in the industry as the ‘Decleor glow’. All treatments and products from Decleor are amazing and, if you have never had one and, love fabulous aromas and beautiful massage, then I suggest you go and experience one. You won’t regret it, in fact, you will probably fall asleep on the couch! I speak from experience here, having been both a client and a therapist.
Baume Essential/Aroma Night
This ‘wonder balm’ is made from Beeswax which softens and protects, Hazelnut oil for vitamins A and E to nourish and, Avocado oil which helps regeneration of the skin. Plus, Tonka bean resin will act on the skin’s micro-circulation. It contains essential oils of Neroli for soothing, Basil to heal and purify and, Chamomile to decongest and act on any inflammation you may have.
This balm also smells divine and, to sum up, its detoxifying, calming and soothing to the skin whilst being great at balancing it. It benefits the healing of the skin and soothes when there are times of top layer irritation, whilst also giving it a lustre or, glow to tired complexions.
After cleansing well in the evening, or before bed, use a pea size or pearl amount and rub between your hands to melt into an oily texture (and don’t worry, its not an oil slick product..Decleor don’t do greasy). Then cup your hands over your nose and inhale a couple of times, deeply. The aroma of calming Neroli helps you to relax. Massage the balm using sweeping stokes across the face and neck, work it into the skin if you have time and enjoy the aroma. Thats it, nothing else, this is your night time moisturiser but, in a treatment form. You should wake in the morning with a soothed, plump, healthy looking complexion. Its great if your skin is feeling dehydrated, unbalanced (so oily with breakouts or dry patches), it also helps at times of the month (or during menopause), when the skin is kind of ‘upset’ and misbehaving.
As Decleor actually make a balm for each skin type, you can use the one that suits you best and, just slot this one in for those times when your skin needs rebalancing. Baum Essential is the one to use if you are unsure of your skin type as it works for all. Its a great balm to have in the house for both sexes, my hubby loves it for the odd skin issue or ingrowing hair.
It can also be used as part of a regular facial exfoliant/mask treatment ; after cleansing well, tone (if you do), then apply a pea size amount of the balm, work into the skin and apply a moisturising mask over the top. Leave for around 15-20 minutes and then remove, follow with moisturiser as usual. The oils from the balm will penetrate into the surface of the skin and, this will act as a ‘double whammy’ with your mask on the top.
Just using a tiny amount of balm on things like an upcoming spot, will help calm the area and, it can also help to break down milia, the little white lumps that can appear around the eye area. Plus, if you, or your guy get an ingrowing hair that is irritating, again apply a tiny amount on the area, this should help calm the skin and let the hair work through the surface. Its just a very handy product to have to calm skin that is stressed or sore also, try using it for just a week and notice how the skin’s surface is more settled each morning.
Baum Essential or Aroma Night (Neroli) comes in 2 sizes of pot – 30ml for around £30 and lasts for around 6 months, plus it comes in a supersize of 50ml (should last you 9months and then some), for around £50. You can get great deals on Decleor sets at qvcUK or, if you just want the balm, shop around online (check out my recent post for fave online sites) as you can usually get discount prices at some of them.
I can’t stress enough how fabulous this product is and, well worth slotting into your routine to see how well it works for you and, how quick you can get results.
So, if you also use Aroma night, one of my desert island products, let me know how you use it and why you love it in the comments. Or, if you have any questions regarding this or the other oils and balms from Decleor, please just ask and I will get back to you.

Hi Paula, so pleased you like my blog. For sensitive skin I would recommend using products containing Rose oil as its very gentle and soothing, also Argan oil as it repairs and strengthens skin. Its difficult to say what to stay away from, basically its trial and error but I wouldn’t recommend using exfoliants with grains, some oils can cause sensitivity. I know with me, Ylang Ylang or can make my redness flare. I will be doing a sensitive skin post soon so watch out for some tips there.
Gatineau I rate highly, I use their Melatogenine Futur Plus Anti-age Wrinkle mask, its beautiful. It can be used over the eyes too and left on overnight as a fab treatment. Age Benefit is a lovely moisturiser and their Gentle Silk cleanser and toner is also lovely for sensitive skin. Decleor’s Essential balm (as in above post) is also a good night product as it helps address balancing the skin. Hope this helps some
      Heidi x
